Which foreign country or culture do you feel most drawn toward?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 18, 2008:

Growing up with asianic influences, I've always had an interest in the Chinese culture.  Although I am Vietnamese, I'm more interested in the Chinese culture and the country itself--perhaps it's because I've watched too many dramas series that are produced by Chinese actors and actresses.  In fact, I've been watching these drama series for as long as I can remember, citing back to the Journey to the West and Return of the Condor Heroes.  Yes, it's a weird first beginning, but I guess we got to start somewhere.

I enjoy listening to Chinese-inspired music.  I think the erhu and the flute instruments used in Chinese music really conjures a lyrical tone that even words can't even express.  The melodies in these instruments are really profound in their abilities to somehow vibrate the chasms of the heart and penetrate a sense of personal reconciliation when one is stressed.

Another aspect I like about the Chinese culture is the art.  Nothing can be better than looking at atmospheric ink paintings done by the masters of Chinese caligraphy and painters.  A serene and poetic message is often times exemplified through the simplicity of words, and the succinctly expressed strokes on the bamboo-inspired paintings are quite intriguing to appreciate.  These things somehow put me in another realm of thinking, and I like being zoned out!

Of course, there are a mosaic of other things that I like about the Chinese culture, but let's leave that for when I have to write a full essay for that later on in life--if ever!
